From the opening work, Blue Sky, to the concluding symphony, Secret Sky, this album gives music of joy and wonderment. The middle two works, In the Garden and Through the Woods, show the personal experience of the composer and add a dimension of heartfelt tenderness. “Sky Watch,” the first movement of Secret Sky, opens the door to the cosmic, and the final movement, “Golden Light,“ in mystic ecstasy, goes to the inner sky.

It is my joy to tell you about poet, musician and composer James Forte’s latest work. His new compact disc entitled AT THE EDGE OF DAWN is beautiful, memorable and certainly special.

The first time I listened to AT THE EDGE OF DAWN (and I’ve listened to it many more times since), I discovered music that is all at once, meditative and mysterious, sweet and angelic. To that I must add transportive and dramatic.

How can this be? The answer to that question is Mr. Forte, himself. This lifelong poet is a composer with a varied musical output. Included are works for orchestra, chorus, chamber ensemble, solo piano as well as electronic instruments. In other words, and more to the point, James Forte is the epitome of creativity, versatility and musicianship.

AT THE EDGE OF DAWN is a tour-de-force of electronic music that is always reminiscent (I believe) of the spiritual music of India. What an artful juxtaposition...old and new in perfect harmony. There are 11 songs, all as different as night from day. Yet, the entire performance shares a oneness of the spirit. Every melody delivers Mr. Forte’s unique ability to transport the listener to that place within, that place of God.

Combine the exquisite music with perfection in blending, mixing and superior musicianship and you begin to have an idea of the wonder of AT THE EDGE OF DAWN. James Forte has given us another album that you can listen to … listen to … and listen to … and continue to revel in its beauty and spirituality!

Those of you who read my column regularly are aware of an artist named James Forte. This reviewer defines artist, in the case of James Forte, as a composer, poet, concert musician and seeker on the spiritual path.

From the very depths of his soul, it seems to me, Mr. Forte offers us a splendid, innovative and truly glorious new album entitled, ROKKA’S RETURN. There are three musical works that comprise this milestone and all of them fascinated me with their incredible beauty, delicate nuances and memorable messages.

The title work is a five movement (track) symphony that tells the story of a hero’s return, and his sacred journey through the physical, psychological and spiritual, to his goal, Home Ground. I don’t know if it is good form to speak this way of a musical masterpiece, but it will knock your socks off.

The next performance on this album, In the Fields, tracks six through ten, are the composer’s heart-felt views of life, spirituality and affirmations of a better place. This is all set to music that will bring tears to the listener. Mr. Forte reaches deep in his reservoir of love and appreciation of the angelic, and for all humankind. The end track, Angel Voices - Wendy’s Flowers, might just qualify as the most beautiful written by a modern composer.
